Elda Alma Bertha Hoernemann
Elda Alma Bertha Hoernemann, age 92 of Glencoe, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the Glencoe Regional Health Services, Long Term Care Unit.
Elda was born May 30, 1913 in Young America Township, the daughter of Helmuth and, Ottilia (Ponath) Will. She was baptized June 8, 1913 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Young America by the Rev. Baumhoefner, and later confirmed into the faith April 10, 1927 at the same church by the Rev. Abraham.
Elda was united in marriage to Earl Hoernemann June 6, 1934 at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kramer. The couple made their home on a farm in Bergen Twp. and lived there until 1992, when they moved to Glencoe.
Elda was a member of the Historical Society, the church choir, and the Ladies Aid. She served as a Sunday school teacher at Friedens United Church of Christ in Norwood Young America.
She loved to dance to old time music and drive around the countryside, just enjoying the scenery. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elda is survived by her daughter, Carol Heuer (husband Ferdinand) of Plato; grandchildren Charlene Wickenhauser (husband Richard) of Waconia, Steve Heuer (wife Debra) of Litchfield, and Susan Mackenthun (husband Butch) of Norwood Young America; great-grandchildren Kari and Kyle Wickenhauser, Danielle and Patrick Heuer, and Frankie and John Mackenthun.
She is further survived by sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Rudella VonBerge of Colorado Springs, Colo., Elmer and Geraldine Hoernemann of Lester Prairie, and Orville and Myra Hoernemann of Glencoe; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant brother; a sister and brother-in-law Malinda and Leonard Jannusch; and brother-in-law Ray VonBerge.
Funeral services celebrating Elda’s life were Thursday, April 20 at 11 a.m. at the Friedens United Church of Christ in Norwood Young America with the Rev. Joseph Clay officiating. The organist was Dorothy Herrmann and the soloist was Marvin Westermann, who sang “Take Thou My Hand And Lead Me.” The congregational hymns were “Just As I Am,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “What a Fellowship.”
Visitation took place Wednesday evening, April 19 at the Johnson McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Serving as casket bearers were Richard Jannusch, Leonard Jannusch Michael Hoernemann, Bill Schwarze, Kyle Wickenhauser, Patrick Heuer, and Curtis Sauter. Interment was in the Ferguson Cemetery in Norwood Young America.
Arrangements were by the Johnson McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
