Doris Rosella Irby
Doris Rosella Irby, age 85, of Dassel, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at the Dassel Lakeside Community Home.
She was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Collinwood Township, Meeker County, the daughter of Carl and Christine (Haglund) Swanson. Doris grew up in the Lake Jennie area and attended elementary school at the Lake Jennie School. In 1939, she graduated from the Dassel High School.
Doris was united in marriage to Charles Irby in Palmdale, Calif. in 1950. She worked as a secretary while she lived in California.
Later, Doris moved back to Lake Jennie to take care of her father. She lived with her father for many years, and together, they moved into the Dassel Lakeside Community Home in 1978.
Doris loved to do crafts and word puzzles, and visit with family and friends. She especially enjoyed children and animals.
She is survived by her brother, Kermit (Aileen) Swanson of Dassel; sister Fern Smith of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ahlert and Vernal; and a sister, Clarine Crepeau.
The funeral service was Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Lake Jennie Covenant Church, rural Dassel, with the Rev. Doug Pierce officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Visitation took place at the Lake Jennie Covenant Church Tuesday, Oct. 3 from 10 to 11 a.m. Soloist Sheldon Hedin and organist Diane Blackwood provided music for the service, including hymns “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “Day by Day.”
Casketbearers were Ken Swanson, Dale Crepeau, Brad Swanson, Dave Pearson, Mike Thalberg, Lloyd Melvie, Donald Smith, and Thom Backman.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
