Reuben Clarence Johnson
Reuben Clarence Johnson, age 72, currently residing in Oregon and formerly of Darwin and Dassel, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2006 at Marquis Care in Forest Grove, Ore.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel with the Rev. Jack Torgersen officiation. Interment will be in Swan Lake Cemetery, Dassel.
Reuben was born April 18, 1934 in Darwin, the son of Albin Victor and Augusta Gunhild (Anderson) Johnson. He was raised and received his early education in Dassel, until 1948, when the family moved to Oregon, settling in the Gales Creek community.
Reuben graduated from Forest Grove Union High School in 1953. Following high school, he bought a farm in North Plains, Ore.
He joined the US Army Oct. 15, 1956, and served two years as a helicopter mechanic in South Korea and Japan, receiving his honorable discharge Oct. 20, 1958,
While serving in Japan, Reuben met Kazuko Marubashi, and they were married in 1962. Following their marriage, they made their home on the farm in North Plains, until June of 2005, when Reuben suffered a stroke. Reuben and Kazuko celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary this year.
Reuben worked as an engineer for ESI, and later GAF in Progress, Ore. for about 20 years. He never missed a day of work during that time. Reuben retired in 1997.
He was a member of North Plains Christian Church.
Reuben enjoyed working on the farm and caring for the thousands of iris and daffodil bulbs he planted on his land.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albin and Augusta Johnson; two sisters; and one brother.
In addition to his wife, Reuben is survived by a brother, Rodney; and several nieces and nephews.
