Alvin E. Kappes
Alvin E. Kappes, age 78, of Lester Prairie, formerly of Embarrass, died Thursday evening, Nov. 2, 2006 at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
He was born Sept. 3, 1928 in Ada, Minn., the son of William J. and Rose M. Platt Kappes Sr.
Alvin honorably served his country in the US Army as a staff sergeant.
Alvin was joined in holy marriage to Dorothy M. Ford June 13, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Formerly employed as a heavy equipment operator at Reserve Mining Company, Alvin was a past member of United Steel Workers of America.
He was a 50-year member of American Legion Post 463 in Lester Prairie, a 50-year member of V.F.W. Post 906 in Hutchinson, and a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Alvin is survived by his children: Kevin (Therese) Kappes of Embarrass, Kyle (Dave) Stella of Babbitt ,and Kelly (Jeff) Hecksel of Lester Prairie; daughter-in-law Deborah of Dassel; 12 grandchildren: Lee, Eric, and Adam Kappes; Nicole, Amy, and Michelle Kappes; Jeff (Jessica) Stella and Joe Stella; Ashley, and Elizabeth, Nathan, and Christopher Hecksel; five great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Kolton, Owen, Jack, and Aspen; a sister, Dorothy (Donald) Stock of Fargo, N.D.; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy, Feb. 28, 1990, a son, Kent Alvin Kappes, Feb. 3, 1999; his parents; an infant sister, Loretta; and eight brothers: Joseph, Lawrence, Bernard “Pat,” Jerome, Clarence, Sylvester, Donald, and Raymond.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Nov. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf was the celebrant.
Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.
Casket bearers were Lee, Eric, and Adam Kappes; Jeff and Joe Stella; and Brady Ernst.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
