Mildred E. “Millie” Kraemer
Mildred E. “Millie” (Saunders) Kraemer, age 85, formerly from Delano, and recently residing in Reno, Nev., died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006.
She was born Aug. 8, 1921 in Wadena, to Verna and Harold Ham, and lived near there until 1925, when she moved with her family to St Paul and lived on a houseboat on the Mississippi River.
Millie attended teacher training schools and taught in several one-room schoolhouses in Minnesota.
She married George L. Kraemer and over the years, Millie and her family lived in California, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, and Montana. They moved to Delano in 1963, and remained there while she taught and was principal of St. Peter’s Catholic School for many years.
Millie thoroughly enjoyed her work with her students over the years.
After George passed away, Millie married Fred Saunders and lived in Reno, Nev. during the winter months, and on Waverly Lake during the summer months.
Fred died in 2003, and Millie moved to the Arbors Memory Care facility in Sparks, Nev., where she lived and experienced declining health and the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s until her death.
In addition to her husbands, Millie was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Jean Kraemer, who died at birth.
Millie is survived by daughter Michelle Bogenrief and husband Bruce; son George E. Kraemer and wife Catherine; son Gary Kraemer and wife Bonnie; son Keith Kraemer and wife Beth; son Timothy Kraemer and wife Debbie; stepsons Robert Maples; and Harry Hammer and wife Joy; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Millie’s generosity and love will be greatly missed by all of her children and grandchildren.
Services took place Wednesday, Oct. 11, with burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno.
A memorial service will take place at St Peter’s Church in Delano, Tuesday, Oct. 24, with a memorial gathering beginning at 6 p.m., followed by a memorial Mass at 7 p.m.
The family requests that donations be made to St. Peter’s School in Delano or the Minnesota Alzheimer’s Association.
