Odessa Mae Lawrence
Odessa Mae (Odie) Lawrence, age 73, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 at her home, in the care of her family, after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral service was Monday, Sept. 25 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, S.D., with interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
Odessa was born Jan. 25, 1933 in Litchfield, the daughter of Walter and Velma (Cunningham) Anderson. She grew up near Dassel, and graduated from Dassel High School in 1951.
Odie married David Lawrence Jr. Aug. 30, 1952 in Luverne. To this union, nine children were born.
In 1953, the couple made their home on a farm near Garretson, S.D., and in 1959, they moved to Sioux Falls, where Odie spent her time as a full-time mother. She was also employed by the Renner Locker for 21 years, and worked part-time at HyVee for five years.
In her free time Odie enjoyed putting together scrapbooks for herself and her family, taking family pictures, and watching the Minnesota Twins. She especially loved to spend time with her family, and considered them to be her career.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Michael (Debra) Lawrence of Dell Rapids, S.D., Leon (Jill) Lawrence of Lennox, S.D., Charles Lawrence, Kevin (Brenda) Lawrence, and Jerrid (Chris) Lawrence, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughters, Vickie Hackett, and Shirley (Robert) Phelan, all of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Linda (Tim) Loof of Tea, S.D.; daughter-in-law Debra Lawrence of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 24 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by six siblings, Helen (Richard) Olson of Willmar, Dale (Betty) Anderson of Minneapolis, Walter (Marilyn) Anderson of Oregon City, Ore., John Anderson of San Francisco, Calif., Margaret (Richard) Sodergren of Tyler, Texas, and Pat Harge of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Odie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, David Lawrence III; and three grandsons, Adam Lawrence, Robert Phelan Jr., and Tanner Lawrence.
Arrangements were with the George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, S.D.
