Emma Sophia Leinonen
Emma Sophia Leinonen, age 93 of French Lake Township, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006 at the Cokato Manor in Cokato.
She was born Feb. 29, 1912 in French Lake Twp. to John and Minnie (Luma) Korpela. She went to Dewey School until eighth grade.
Emma lived and worked at home with her folks until she married John Leinonen June 10, 1939 at the North Crow River Lutheran Church parsonage in Knapp.
The couple made their home at the Leinonen farm in French Lake Twp.
A member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Emma served on many committees. She was chairperson of the cleaning committee, served on the flowers and altar committee, and was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years. In addition, Emma served lunch for the annual cemetery board meetings for many years.
Emma was a homemaker all her life. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Gloria (Robert) Dobratz of Hutchinson, Kathy (Neil) Seiffert of Annandale, Patty (Ron) Karels of Paynesville, and Linda Leinonen of Crystal; son Bob Leinonen; and grandchildren Paul Dobratz of Mankato, Becky (Troy) Puckett of Waconia, Steven Dobratz and fiancé Amanda) of Parkers Prairie, Jodie (Chris) Pahl of Blaine, Julie (Zach) Flann of St. Paul, Cassie (Paul) Albinson of Crystal, Lisa Leinonen of Long Lake, Ryan (Ghislaine) Seiffert of Fayetteville, N.C., Aaron Seiffert (and fiancé Shannon) of Annandale, Hollie Seiffert of Roseville, Simon Karels of Alexandria, Sara (Gerry) Uhlenkamp of Lake Henry, Stephanie Karels (and fiancé Jake) of Albany, and Stacy Markgraf (and fiancé Luke) of Paynesville. Emma is further survived by great-grandchildren Justin and Jaclynn Karels, Hezekiah and Caleb Albinson, Isaac and Emma Markgraf, Amanda and Ashley Puckett, Ellie and Ethan Zimmerman, and Brendan, Nicholas and Kaitlyn Uhlenkamp; a sister, Norma Larson; and sisters-in-law Agnes (Ray) Saksa of Cokato, and Edna Leinonen.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; brothers Emil, Nick, Simon, and Bill; and sisters, Minnie, Martha, Mary, Millie, and Hilja.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ed. Groop officiating. Music was provided by Margaret Groop and Helen Mattilla. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Paul Albinson, Paul Dobratz, Steven Dobratz, Zachery Flann, Simon Karels, Chris Pahl, Troy Puckett, Aaron Seiffert, Ryan Seiffert, and Gerald Uhlenkamp.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
