Edward Joseph Lyrek
Edward Joseph Lyrek, age 83 of Montrose, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at his home in Franklin Township.
Ed was born to Peter M. and Genevieve (Theisen) Lyrek in Watertown Aug. 11, 1922, the oldest of nine children.
He was joined in holy matrimony to Gertrude Ann Remer Oct. 28, 1947. God blessed their marriage with 10 children.
Ed was a lifelong farmer in Marysville and Franklin townships, near Montrose. He had a great sense of humor and a loving heart.
Ed was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also liked staying busy and spending time outdoors.
Ed is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gertrude; children, Lawrence and Judy Lyrek, Gordy and Suzan Lyrek, Geraldine Lyrek, Christine and Tim Schaar, Mary and Chad Mikalunas, Ed Jr. and Linda Lyrek, and Robert and Elana Lyrek; 23 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by five brothers: Clarence and Elaine Lyrek, Patrick and Joan Lyrek, Gerald and Jane Lyrek, John and Janet Lyrek, and Steve and Alicia Lyrek; and three sisters: Eleanor Salonek, Rose and Bernard Hackenmuller, and Bernice and Eldon Kasper
Ed was preceded in death by two sons, David and Jeffrey; a daughter, Catherine; and parents Peter M. and Genevieve Lyrek.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Jan. 5 at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary in Waverly, with the Rev. Timothy Cloutier officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 4 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at the church, and continued from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, prior to the Mass.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
