Paul P. Mader
Paul P. Mader, age 88 of St. Bonifacius, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in Arlington.
He was born Jan. 23, 1918 at Carroll County, Iowa, the son of Frank X. and Lillian M. (Hagen) Mader. Paul was baptized Jan. 23, 1918 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carroll County, Iowa, and later confirmed in the Catholic faith.
Paul was united in marriage to Angeline Bauer Feb. 19, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius by the Rev. Wohlfort.
He served in the US Army during World War II and was presented with a medal of recognition for being involved in the Normandy Invasion, after 50 years.
An active member of the St. Bonifacius American Legion, he served as the oldest Legion member in St. Bonifacius.
Paul was also an active member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, serving as church trustee for over 27 years.
Paul and Angie sold their farm to the Watertown-Mayer School District; education was an important value to Paul.
His hobbies included woodworking, farming, gardening, growing popcorn, and attending his grandchildren’s celebrations.
Paul was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Angie; and children and spouses: Don and Carol Mader of Arlington, Jerry and Lois Mader of Mound, Monica and Lewis Taylor of Chatfield, Larry and Darlene Mader of Howard Lake, Joan and Pat Lynch of Watertown, Mary and David Sandquist of Minnetrista, Aggie and Bob Gooden of East Grand Forks, Linda and Greg Reinert of Watertown, and Bob Mader of Eden Prairie.
Paul is further survived by grandchildren John Mader, Lisa Roseland, Sharon Mader, Geri Ann Kolles, Renee Mader, Jeff Mader, Brenda Himlie, Marvin, Craig, and Wendy Taylor; Jason Mader, Sarah Brown, Katie, Emily, Anna, and Aaron Lynch; Cara, Tim, and Zachary Sandquist; Josh, Adam, and Ashley Guetzkow; and Erick, Holly, Joe, and Lily Reinert; and great-grandchildren Tyler and Alexys Roseland, Jacob, Julia, Joe, and Jameson Kolles; Lacey Mader, Kaitlyn Himlie, and Maria Brown.
In addition, Paul is survived by brothers and sister-in-law George Mader of Mound, John Mader of DeSoto, Texas, and Frank and Doris Mader of West Bend, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Lois Bauer of St. Bonifacius, Tony and Virginia Bauer of Waconia, Willie and Mary Bauer of St. Bonifacius, and Winnie and Roman Riesgraf of Carver; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his grandson, Martin Taylor; parents Frank X. and Lillian M. Mader; brother and sisters-in-law August and Bernice Mader, Mary Margaret Mader, and Alice Mader; sister and brother-in-law Frances and Vincent Badder; father-in-law and mother-in-law Anton and Rosa Bauer; brothers-in-law Ray Bauer and Norbert Bauer; and sisters-in-law Alta Bauer and Marlys Bauer.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, St. Bonifacius, with the Rev. Stan Mader as celebrant. Vigil prayers were led by the Rev. Joseph Gallatin. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were grandsons John Mader, Jeff Mader, Marvin Taylor, Jason Mader, Aaron Lynch, Tim Sandquist, Josh Guetzkow, and Eric Reinert.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
