Ernest James Mallak
Ernest James Mallak, age 90, of rural Silver Lake, died Thursday, March 2, 2006 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born July 25, 1915 in Hale Township, McLeod County, the son of Anthony and Ann (Zrust) Mallak.
Ernest was baptized at St. Adalbert Catholic Church and attended grade school there. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1932.
Ernest J. Mallak and Delphine C. Millerbernd were joined in holy marriage Nov. 20, 1939, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted by Father Wey.
Through the years, Ernie was a livestock trucker, trucked for Green Giant, and hauled baby chicks for the Bartons. He also was a longtime Guernsey cattle breeder and dairyman.
Ernest enjoyed woodworking, cracking butternuts, visiting with friends and neighbors, dancing, and traveling.
He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, and maintained St. Adalbert’s lawn for many years.
Erneest is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Delphine C. Mallak; a sister, Dorothy Larson of Minneapolis; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Quast of New Hope; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Harvey; his mother during childbirth; and his father.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Robert J. Mraz as the celebrant. Alice Nowak was the organist for the Mass, and Connie Kozitza was the reader. “Here I Am Lord,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “Amazing Grace,” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung as congregational hymns. Interment followed at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Friends called Sunday, March 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake. A prayer service took place at 7 p.m.
Casket bearers were Al Rozeske, Kevin, Duane, Gene, and Harlan Wawrzyniak; and Clifford Ruzicka.
The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake served the family.
