Richard Neil Martin

Richard Neil Martin, age 82, of Dassel, died Saturday, May 27, 2006, at his home.

He was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Litchfield, to Sam and Olga (Carlson) Martin. Richard grew up on a farm north of Grove City, where he helped with all of the farm chores. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Baptist Church in Grove City, where he was presently a member.

Richard was united in marriage to Marcella (Sally) Scribner in 1946. Together, they farmed for two years before they bought a farm south of Litchfield, where they farmed for a few years before moving to San Diego, Calif. in 1952.

Richard and Marcella lived in California for 12 years, where Richard farmed and later worked on the Atlas Missile Project. In 1964, Richard and Marcella moved back to Dassel, where they farmed and lived to the present time

Richard loved to spend time golfing, playing cards, and bowling. He enjoyed the time that he spent with his family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will deeply be missed by his family and his friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marcella (Sally) of Dassel; daughter, Janice (Tom) Manning of Litchfield; son, John Martin of Watkins; four grandchildren, Tyler Martin, Sean Martin, Mike (Kerry) Manning, and Jason (Jodi) Manning; and three great-grandchildren, Gage Manning, Gavin Manning, and Bryce Manning.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger and Quinten; and one sister, Lucille Hoffman.

The funeral service was Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Grove City with the Rev. Peter Lee officiating. Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Litchfield.

A visitation took place Tuesday, May 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel; and continued one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
