Sylvia Helen Mucha
Sylvia Helen Mucha, age 78, of Howard Lake, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2006.
She was born Sept. 23, 1928 to Fred and Emma (Sticha) Jelinek. Sylvia grew up as an only child on the family farm in New Prague, Minn.
At the age of 16, Sylvia met the man of her dreams at a local dance. But it was World War II, and Alvin had already been drafted. For two years, the romance continued by way of letters and cards.
Sylvia and Alvin Mucha were married April 10, 1948 at Saint Wenceslas Catholic Church in New Prague. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters.
They made their home in Montgomery, Minn., where Sylvia worked as a clerk at the local Ben Franklin store, and then worked as a shirt inspector at Munsingwear, Inc.
Sylvia loved Christmas, red carnations, and baby Jesus. She loved Alvin dearly, her family, radishes and stick onions fresh from the garden, church dinners, blue ribbons from the county fair, her Czech heritage, and her craft work.
Sylvia enjoyed doing embroidery, and could always be found making Christmas decorations, Christmas stockings, and stuffed animals from felt.
Following Alvin’s illness in March 2005, they made the move to Howard Lake. Sylvia was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2005, and began what would be an 18-month battle with the disease.
In addition to her husband of 58 years, Alvin; Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Adeline (Addie) Mucha of Howard Lake, and Monica Mucha Kortz (husband Alan) of LeSueur; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Emma Jelinek.
