Marie Emily Nelson
Marie Emily Nelson, age 93 of Dassel, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 at the Dassel Lakeside Community Home.
She was born Oct. 19, 1912 in Darwin Township, Meeker County, the daughter of Nicholas and Tillie (Post) Peifel. Marie grew up and received her education in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School in 1931, and Normal Training in 1932. Her first teaching assignment was in the Lake Jenny area.
Marie was united in marriage to Gene Louisiana in 1936, and the couple made Litchfield their home. To this union, two children were born, Bob and DiAnna.
Marie spent many years working in the J.C. Penney Store.
Gene and Marie divorced, and Marie went back to school to further her teaching degree, returning to teaching in the rural schools in Meeker County.
She married Sidney Nelson April 25, 1959, and moved to Mound, where Sid was a plumber and Marie did market research. In 1977, they moved to Litchfield to retire.
Marie was a second mother to her nieces, always making sure that their skirts were pressed and their hair curled.
She was a member of the Church of St, Philip in Litchfield, the Catholic Council of Women, and the Daughters of Isabella.
She enjoyed playing bridge, going to garage sales far and wide, shopping, especially for antiques, and then having the “neatest” garage sale in Litchfield; traveling, helping at church, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Marie is survived by her children; Terry (and Connie) Nelson of Rice Lake, Wis., Robert (and Betty) Louisiana of Lebonon, Mo., DiAnna Robayo of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Gene (and Mary) Nelson of Chaska; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her godchild, Jean Holm of Dassel; and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Sidney in 2002; sisters Viola Housman and Drucilla Brown; and brother Jess Peifer.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield, with Father Pat Casey as celebrant, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Augustana Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Litchfield.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
