Eva Maryette Nelson
Eva Maryette Nelson, age 84 of Cokato, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
She was born Nov. 14, 1921 in LeCenter, to Everett and Genevieve Loney. Eva’s parents moved to Montgomery, while Eva stayed in LeCenter to finish school. She lived with the Wick family and did household chores for her room and board.
A few years after graduation, Eva moved to California with her good friend, Sis. She met Al Nelson and they were married March, 20, 1943 in Las Vegas.
After Al was discharged from the Navy, they moved back to Minnesota. They started raising a family and with Al’s job, they relocated several times, finally settling in Cokato in 1967.
Eva was employed by Great Plains Gas doing bookwork until her retirement.
She enjoyed cooking for her family, having coffee at the Norseman restaurant, shopping, and visiting relatives and family.
Eva is survived by her children, Janice (Tom) Heffron of Santa Rosa, Calif., Terry (Karen) Nelson of Buffalo, Joyce (Tom) Johnston of Roseville, Debbie (Gary) Forsman of Cokato, Kurt (Libby) Nelson of Seattle, Wash., and Stephanie (Jeff) Bourgerie of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; grandchildren Lindsey, Allison, Lori, Kelly, Corin, Kristin, Jamie, Justin, Thomas, Sam, Peter, Katie, David, Abby, Claire, Frannie, Jacqueline, Andrew, and Courtney; and great-grandchildren MacKenzie, Isaiah, Evan, Leif, and Drew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Al; sons Bill, Jim, and baby Paul; and brother, Bud.
Funeral service was Friday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato with the Rev. Steve Thorson officiating. Music was provided by Grant Judd, and granddaughters Jacqueline and Jamie. Interment was in the Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Justin Johnston, Thomas Johnston, Sam Johnston, Peter Forsman, David Forsman, Kristin Nelson, and Andrew Bourgerie.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
