Glen Alvy Newman
Glen Alvy Newman, age 72, of Grants Pass, Ore., formerly of Dassel, died Monday, May 22, 2006 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.
He was born Oct. 26, 1933 in Dassel.
Glen married Darlene R. Wackler June 18, 1961 in Howard Lake.
He and Darlene moved from Minnesota to Grants Pass, Ore. 18 years ago.
As an electronics technician, Glen worked for Sears for 18 years, for RCA Service Company for five years, and for Midwest TV for six years.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he was involved in the choir and served as a church elder.
Glen was also a member of the Lutheran Church of Redemption for 24 years, and a member of the Josephine County Sportsmen’s Association.
Glen enjoyed hunting, especially for pheasants and whitetail deer, fishing for northern pike and walleye, camping, rock hounding, and playing the guitar. For many years, he was a member of the Country Drifters.
Glen is survived by his wife, Darlene; a son, David Newman of Grants Pass, Ore.; a daughter, Dawn Youngner of Apple Valley; a sister Ann Williams of Mesquite, Texas; a brother, Richard “Dick” Newman of Roseville; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service took place Sunday, May 28 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Oregon, with the Rev. Tom Hirsch officiating.
Arrangements were by Hull & Hull Funeral Directors in Grants Pass, Ore.
