Florence Adeline Olson
Florence Adeline (Sjostrand) Olson, age 87, of Dassel, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006, at the Dassel Lakeside Community Home.
Florence, the daughter of Adolph and Lina (Soder) Sjostrand, was born June 12, 1919, in Collinwood Township, Meeker County. She grew up in Collinwood Twp., where she attended District 88, and District 17 schools. She later graduated from the Dassel High School in 1939.
After graduating from high school, Florence moved to California, where she took business courses and graduated in 1941. She went to work at the L.A. Bullocks Department Store in Los Angles, Calif.
Florence was united in marriage to Elmer Olson Aug. 5, 1955, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. Together, they made their home in Dassel, where Florence worked at the Red Owl Store and office.
She was an active member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, where she was baptized in the Lutheran faith, and was later confirmed May 6, 1934. She taught Sunday School for 25 years, belonged to Bible study, was a member of WELCA, and enjoyed quilting.
Florence is survived by one niece, Adelle Peterson of Delano. She is also survived by other family, friends, and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a sister, Alice Swanson.
The funeral service took place Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, preceded by one hour visitation. The Rev. Michael Nelson officiated at the funeral service, and the music was provided by Florine Osness, organist, and Sheldon Hedin, soloist. The hymn was “Children of the Heavenly Father,” and the solo’s were, “How Great Thou Art,” and “The King is Coming.” Interment was at the Dassel Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Sandra Vittori, Ronald Peterson, James Peterson, Jerry Peterson, Carol Emal, Nancy Peterson, Diane Asfeld, Donna Anderson, and Jeff Peterson.
The Johnson Funeral Home of Dassel handled the arrangements.
