Bernice Pauline Pawelk
Bernice Pauline Pawelk, age 82, of Hutchinson, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
She was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Maple Plain, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Wagner) Taylor. Bernice was baptized June 17, 1936, and was later confirmed in her faith, May 25, 1939. She received her education at Lee Country School in Hennepin County.
Bernice was united in marriage to Willard Pawelk Nov. 8, 1958, at First Lutheran Church in Northwood, Iowa. Bernice and Willard resided in Mayer. They shared 28 years of marriage, until Willard passed away Dec. 8, 1986.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Bernice held employment as a cook for Dr. James Bratholdt, was employed by Tonka Toys in Mound, Green Giant in Glencoe and Watertown, and Uncle Ron’s Meats in Mayer, and cleaned houses in the Winsted area.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Bernice also volunteered at the Hutchinson Senior Center.
Bernice enjoyed watching parades, playing bingo, making greeting cards, and other crafts. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by her children, Melvin Kirchenwitz and his wife, Donna, of Tonka Bay, Richard Kirchenwitz and his wife, Delores, of Montrose, and Diane Dostal and her husband, Duane, of Silver Lake; grandchildren, Garrett Kirchenwitz and his wife, Rachael; Barrett Kirchenwitz, Jason Kirchenwitz, Carol Thompson and her husband, Ryan Lisa Adams and her husband, Benjamin Karla Dostal, and Karmen Dostal; numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl Taylor and his wife, Gladys, of Maple Plain; sisters, Doris Splettstoeszer of Watertown, and Adeline Pawelk of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Martha Taylor; first husband, Stanford Kirchenwitz; second husband, Willard Pawelk; and brothers-in-law Del Loyd Pawelk, Wallace Splettstoeszer, and Glennard Pawelk.
A memorial service took place Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Herman R. Hannemann officiating. Organist was Lori Pagel, and congregational hymns were “I Am Jesus’ Little Lamb,” “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” and “Come, You Thankful People, Come.” Interment was in the Winsted City Cemetery.
Honorary urn bearers were grandchildren Garrett Kirchenwitz, Barrett Kirchenwitz, Jason Kirchenwitz, Carol Thompson, Lisa Adams, Karla Dostal, and Karmen Dostal.
Arrangements were by the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson.
