Mildred Agnes Peterson obituary, 5/10/06

Mildred Agnes Peterson, age 83 of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Home.
Mildred was born May 4, 1923 in Deer Creek, to Walfred and Julia (Keskitalo) Johnson. The eldest of five daughters, she enjoyed her childhood growing up on the family farm, and attended elementary school in Deer Creek.
She was baptized and confirmed at Leaf Lake Lutheran Church in New York Mills.
Millie moved to Minneapolis in 1940, and worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Blumenthal. She was introduced to Arnold Peterson by his sister, Lori, in 1940, and their lifelong romance started. After Arnie’s return from the war, they were married June 3, 1944 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They began their married life in Minneapolis, later moving to St. Louis Park.
Millie and Arnold raised three sons, Paul, Tom, and Jim; and one daughter, Carol.
Millie was a true follower of Christ and throughout her entire life, she reflected jesus’ love. Whether she was cooking, cleaning, or sewing, she would be singing or humming her favorite hymns. She was extremely active in her church, Zion Lutheran, and delivered Meals on Wheels, assembled braille books, and was part of Zion’s visitors program.
Millie was always ready to entertain visitors. Her sons’ friends would congregate at her house prior to the early morning duck hunts. They knew she would have a hearty breakfast waiting for them.
In 2002, Arnie and Millie moved to Howard Lake. Millie entered the Good Samaritan Care Center in 2003, and was lovingly cared for by Arnie and the care center staff.
Millie is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Arnold, of Howard Lake; children Carol Dierker of St. Francis, Paul (Eileen) Peterson, and Tom (Kathy) Peterson, all of Howard Lake; and Jim (Sandra) Peterson of Maple Lake; sisters, Elsie (Vern) Lekander of Maple Grove, Lila Johnson, and Inez Johnson, all of Minnetonka, and Elma Aho of San Diego, Calif; 13 loving grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jared Peterson; son-in-law Peter Dierker; and brother-in-law Edmond Aho.
A celebration of Millie’s life took place Monday, May 15 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with the Rev. Joel Swedberg officiating. Music was provided by Grant Judd, John Benson, and Jim Peterson.
Arrangements were by Swanson- Peterson Funeral Home.
