Eugene “Gene” Jerome Rohde

Eugene “Gene” Jerome Rohde, age 56, of Litchfield, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

He was born July 27, 1950, in Hutchinson, the son of Ernest and Marie (Schnickels) Rohde. He grew up in Dassel, and graduated from Dassel High School in 1968.

Gene served in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

He was united in marriage to Helen Klehr Oct. 26, 1974, in Litchfield. They lived in Litchfield where Gene worked as a carpenter, subcontractor and truck driver; and was the owner and operator of Mid State Services.

Gene was a member of the Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post 2818, the Nelsan-Horton American Legion Post 104, and the Litchfield Fire Department. He was also a member of the Church of St. Philip, and the Knights of Columbus.

Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Litchfield; children, Jared (and Kelly) Rohde of Dassel, Chad Rohde (and fiancée Linda Boyer) of Litchfield, and Tessa Rohde (and fiancé Rick Briscoe) of Litchfield; and three grandchildren, Jordan Dahl, Stefanie Boyer, and Evan Rohde.

Gene is further survived by his brothers, James Rohde of Cold Spring, and Gerald Rohde of Litchfield, sisters Dorothy (and Roger) Johnson of Cokato, Carole (and Dennis) Berglund of Dassel, Shirley (and James) Nelson of Watkins, and Audrey (and Paul) Grant of Rapid City, S.D. as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield with the Rev. Paul Schumacher as celebrant. Interment was in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, with military honors by Admiral Benson V.F.W. Post 2818.

Visitation was Monday, Nov. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield, with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.

The Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield handled the arrangements.
