Mildred “Dee” Ross
Funeral services for Mildred “Dee” Ross, age 91, of Montrose, were Saturday, Aug. 26 at the United Methodist Church in Montrose. Mildred died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006 in Cokato.
She was born Sept. 5, 1914, to William and Lavina (Crawford) Prestidge.
Dee graduated from Montrose High School, where she played organized basketball.
After training and graduating with a practical nursing degree, she worked at the Montrose and the Watertown hospitals, and as a midwife in the Montrose area. Her favorite part of nursing was the birth of the babies.
Dee married Bert A. Ross March 1, 1941. They worked on a farm in Litchfield, and then moved to the family farm, where Dee and her husband operated the family dairy farm and cared for her parents.
Dee thoroughly enjoyed farm life. She cooked for her family, worked as a nurse, and assisted with milking the cows. Many family members enjoyed her cooking, especially her pies.
Family was very important to Dee, and she especially enjoyed the babies.
She was an active, lifelong member of the Montrose United Methodist Church, where she participated in United Methodist Women.
Dee is survived by her son, Glen Ross of Montrose; daughter Connie (Lanny) Schnier of Bancroft, Neb.; numerous nephews, nieces, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lavina Prestige; brothers Paul Prestidge and Donald Prestidge; and sister, Laura Shogren.
Pastor Ingrid Bloom officiated at the 2 p.m. funeral service. Jacque Vanderlinde was the organist. Special music was “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” by Annette Bryant and Glenna Briant. Congregational hymns were “Softly and Tenderly,” “I Was There To Hear Your Borning Cry,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment followed at the Kreidler Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Dick, Bob, Dave, and Dennis Prestidge, Duane “Sonny” Bryant, and Ruth Koepke.
