Derrick Scott Schaitel obituary, 9/18/06


Derrick Scott Schaitel, age 22, of Montrose, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 at Methodist Hospital Health System in St. Louis Park, following a heart attack at Methodist Hospital.
Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, Iowa. Burial will be in New Oregon Cemetery, rural Cresco, Iowa.
Visitation took place at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, and continued one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
Derrick was born in LaCrosse, Wis., Nov. 18, 1983, the son of Teresa Schaitel. When he was eight years of age, they moved to Ridgeway, Iowa, where Derrick was baptized in his faith May 3, 1992 at Peace Lutheran Church. He attended Ridgeway Elementary, and graduated from Crestwood High School, Cresco, Iowa, with the Class of 2002.
While in high school, Derrick participated in football, worked at Hawkeye Pizza, and eventually, Mabe’s Pizza. He was employed at Cresco Food Technologies for a short period of time, and then moved to Minnesota in 2004.
While in Minnesota, he worked for a short period of time as a landscaper, but his health prohibited him from continuing this type of work.
Derrick enjoyed the outdoors. In his early years, he worked on the farm. Later, he would enjoy camping and canoeing.
He is survived by his mother, Teresa Schaitel, and her special friend, Adrian Samec of Cresco, Iowa; special friend Linzi Lund; and Mark Bronner and Grace Bronner, who helped raise him.
Derrick is further survived by his maternal grandmother, Linda Schaitel of West Salem, Wis.; and five uncles, Jeff Schaitel of Mindoro, Wis., Steve Schaitel of Butler, Mo., Robert Schaitel of Viroqua, Wis., Randy Schaitel of West Salem, Wis., and Neil Schaitel of Baldwin, Wis.
