Edna Schubert obituary, 11/21/06


Edna Emma Schubert, age 92, of Lester Prairie, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born Jan. 13, 1914 in Bergen Township, the daughter of Fred and Helena (Birkholz) Brinkmeier. Edna was baptized Feb. 8, 1914 in Bergen Twp. by the Rev. Walter Baumhoefener, and later confirmed into the faith March 29, 1927 in Bergen Twp. by the Rev. J. A. Schert.
Edna attended parochial school in Bergen Twp. from 1920-1927, and was the valedictorian of Lester Prairie High School in 1931.
Edna was united in marriage to Lorence Schubert Nov. 1, 1932, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. J. A. Schert. The couple made their home on a 200-acre farm by New Germany from 1932 to 1953. They would later move to Lester Prairie and own a grocery store and filling station from 1953 to 1976.
At one time, Edna was the president of the Lester Prairie Senior Citizens, and served as a volunteer driver for the McLeod County Social Services. She was a member of the new city hall planning committee from 1978 to 1981.
Edna was a reporter for the Lester Prairie News from 1935 to 1945, and was also a clerk at the US post office in Lester Prairie from 1966 to 1981.
She was the president of the McLeod Group on Aging and also on the Senior Service Advisory Committee at St. Mary’s Hospital and Nursing Home in Winsted.
Throughout Edna’s life, she was a member at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, both in Lester Prairie. She was a member of the LWML at St. Mark Lutheran Church and also at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and was a co-leader of the Bible study group at St. Paul’s.
Edna enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and embroidering dish towels.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Clifford Jerde; great-granddaughter Elizabeth Jerde; and siblings.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Donna Menth (husband Eldert) of New Germany, and Yvonne Jerde of Lester Prairie; and grandchildren: Robert Menth (wife Nancy), Daniel Menth, all of New Germany, Patricia Rogers (husband Ron) of Plymouth, John Menth (wife Trudy) of Mayer, James Menth (wife Twyla) of Mayer, Kevin Jerde (wife Chris) of Burnsville, Brenda Miller of Chaska, and Linda Lueth (husband Mike) of Norwood Young America.
She is further survived by great-grandchildren: Jacquelyn Menth, Jennifer Menth, Jill Menth, Jason Menth, Katlyn Rogers, Lindsey Rogers, Sarah Menth, Holly Menth, Matthew Menth, Taylor Menth, Kayla Menth (Aaron Coil), Cody Menth, Ashley Miller, Whitney Miller, Jeremiah Lueth, Nicole Lueth, Rachel Lueth and Aaron Lueth; great-great-grandchild Carson Coil; a sister, Delores Karels of Lester Prairie; a sister-in-law, Argoldie Schubert of Lester Prairie; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. The organist was Marsha Christenson, and the soloist was Chuck Thiel, who sang “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagle’s Wings.” The congregational hymns were “Asleep In Jesus” and “Nearer My God To Thee.” Interment was at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie.
Serving as casket bearers were Robert Menth, Daniel Menth, John Menth, James Menth, Ron Rogers, and Mike Lueth.
Visitation was took place Friday evening, Nov. 24, at the church.
Arrangements were by the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
