Agnes Schultz obituary, 9/30/06


Agnes Schultz, age 91, of Hutchinson, formerly of Silver Lake, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at Burns Manor in Hutchinson.
She was born Sept. 5, 1915 in Hale Township, McLeod County, to Stanley and Anna (Sotova) Sopkowiak. Agnes was baptized Sept. 25, 1915 at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake.
She attended District 69 school, and graduated from the eighth grade.
Agnes was united in marriage to Joseph H. Schultz Nov. 14, 1933 at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. They enjoyed 34 years of marriage, and raised two children, Eileen and Diane. Joe passed away Feb. 18, 1968.
Agnes was a housewife and worked on the farm with her husband until his passing. She then went to work at Tonka Toys, and later at Edco in Winsted, before retiring.
She enjoyed gardening, baking kolaches and poppyseed roll, crocheting doilies, sewing, playing cards, and spent time praying the rosary. She especially loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Agnes lived on the family farm in Rich Valley Township until 1994, when she moved to Park Towers in Hutchinson. Due to failing health, she entered Burns Manor Nursing Home March 27, 2006.
In addition to her husband, Joe, Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Anna Sopkowiak; brothers Frank, Henry, and Steven Sopkowiak; sisters Mabel Wanous and Hattie Fisher-Fischbach; three siblings who died in infancy; son-in-law Robert Horstmann; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by two daughters, Eileen (Gordon) Pawlicki, and Diane Horstmann and special friend Bill Molva; grandchildren Daryl Pawlicki, Jason (Brandi) Pawlicki, Kyle and Kelli Pawlicki, and Brian, Ross, and Jennifer Horstmann; and great-grandchildren Shawna, Brandi, and Hailey Horstmann, Ashley Horstmann, Chyanne Pawlicki, and Charmaine Young-El.
Agnes is further survived by a sister-in-law, Bessie Mifek; and nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, with interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Mraz officiated at the Mass, and Alice Nowak was the organist. Congregational hymns were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Amazing Grace,” “I Am The Bread Of Life,” “Just A Closer Walk With Thee,” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Visitation was Monday, Oct. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, and continued Tuesday from 8 to 10 a.m., prior to the Mass.
Casket bearers were Brian and Ross Horstmann, Jason and Kyle Pawlicki, David Wanous, and Robert Sopkowiak.
Honorary casket bearers were Daryl Pawlicki, Kelli Pawlicki, and Jennifer Horstmann.
The Maresh Funeral Home of Silver Lake served the family.
