Agnes A. Schumacher obituary, 9/16/06


Agnes A. Schumacher, age 96, of Loretto, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006 at her son’s home in Eden Valley.
She was born Feb. 27, 1910 in Independence, to Peter and Mary (Jordan) Klaers.
Agnes was a lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. A past president and member of the Christian Mothers, Agnes was an active volunteer to many, always willing to give a hand.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially Rook. She was an accomplished cook, sharing recipes and know-how with everyone.
Agnes never forgot a birthday, always sending a card to let you know she was thinking of you. She was a wonderful mother, but especially, grandma to many.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Alex; her daughter, Helen; grandson Lee Alan Spurzem; and sisters Marie Schumacher and Sister Dorothy Klaers SSND.
She is survived by her children, daughter Rosemary and LeRoy Spurzem; sons Edwin and Mary Schumacher, and Leon and Rose Schumacher; 24 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; five great-great -grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy VanBeusekom.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Sept. 19, at noon, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. The Rev. Brian Fier officiated, with Monsignor Garvey concelebrating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Monday evening, Sept. 18, at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano from 4 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service and an 8:30 p.m. rosary.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
