Leland W. Severson obituary, 3/31/06


Memorial services were Sunday, April 9 at Hope Covenant Church, St. Cloud for Leland W. Severson, age 84, of St. Cloud, who died Friday, March 31, 2006 at his son’s home in Sauk Rapids.
Leland was born April 14, 1921 in Lester Prairie to Arthur and Regina Severson. He was baptized and confirmed at Stockholm Lutheran Church in Cokato.
He served his country in the Army Air Force during WW II.
Leland married Eleanor “Billie” Frothinger June 19, 1946 at Stockholm Lutheran Church in Cokato.
Leland lived in the St. Cloud area since 1968, and was a librarian and media specialist for Hermantown and St. Cloud public schools for 30 years, retiring June 1, 1984.
He was a member of Hope Covenant Church in St. Cloud, where he served as a church elder.
Survivors include his wife, Billie of St. Cloud; daughters and sons, Sharon (Walt) Brush of Birmingham, Ala., David (Kathi) Severson of Duluth, Rebecca (Don) Hainlen of Dassel, and Daniel (Cathy Jo) Severson of Sauk Rapids; brothers and sister, Merlin (Ann) Severson of Tulsa, Okla., Lyle (Janice) Severson, Rollie (Nancy) Severson, and Arden (Betty) Severson, all of Cokato, and Mavis Olson of Willmar; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orville Severson; and a sister, Marjorie Kraft.
The Rev. Bill Dornbush officiated at the 1:30 p.m. memorial service.
Arrangements were by Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids.
