James D. Spellum obituary, 4/29/06


James D. Spellum, age 85, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Newburgh Healthcare Center in Newburgh, Ind.
He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in World War II, where he received the following Navy medals: Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation, American Theatre, and the World War II Victory Medal.
James retired from Bucyrus Erie after 36 years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and V.F.W. Post 42953.
James is survived by his son, Michael J. Spellum of Evansville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Melanie Scheu, Christopher Spellum, and Rachel Spellum, all of Evansville, Ind.; a great-granddaughter, Haley Scheu; a sister, Barbara Beise of Montevideo; and a nephew, David Ugland and his wife, Vivian, of LeCenter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Apollonia, in 1984.
Services took place Monday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel in Evansville.
Visitation was Monday May 1 from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Retired Veteran’s Memorial Club conducting graveside services.
Arrangements were by the Ziemer Funeral Home in Evansville, Ind., which provided this obituary.
