Kenneth A. Tapio
Kenneth A. Tapio, age 76 of Litchfield, went to be with his Savior Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
Kenny was born April 26, 1929 to Hjalmer E. Tapio and Anna Selma (Sachariason) Tapio of Kingston.
He worked as a farm hand and at Proworks in Litchfield, retiring from there as his heath declined.
Kenny was a friendly guy who loved telling jokes, and always started laughing before the punch line. He also loved pancakes and cheeseburgers; and especially cappuccino, always asking for one when you stopped to visit him.
His hobbies were growing things, especially tomatoes, and taking pictures with his Polaroid camera. He also loved to fish, and caught a “big one” off the dock by Lady Bird Park on Lake Ripley.
Kenny was also fond of bingo. He had the amazing gift of being able to spell words when others couldn’t remember how to spell them.
Kenny lived with Danny Danielson, Leroy Adams, and Brad Nelson in Litchfield for several years before moving to the Emmanuel Home Dec. 8, 2005. He and Danny had been housemates for 17 years.
An avid sports fan, Kenny also loved game shows and animals.
He will be greatly missed by his adopted family of Litchfield, Paul and Terry Flatt and Chad and Karie Newman, and surrogate granddaughter, 6-month-old Emily Jo.
Kenny is also survived by his sisters, Esther Alma Sachariason Brendt of Duluth, and Helen Eleanor Tapio of El Cajon, Calif.
He was preceded in death by siblings Myron Edwin Tapio (who died at eight months of age), Jennie Irene Tapio, Marcella Tapio Parkinson, Orville Tapio (who died at age 5), Reino Willard Tapio, and Eva Mary Tapio (who died at eight months of age).
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield with the Rev. Mike Zylstra officiating. Interment was at Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Kingston.
Visitation took place one hour prior to the service at Augustana Chapel.
Arrangements were by Johnson-Haaglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
