Helen Mathilda Titrud, age 91, of Cokato, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the Cokato Manor.
She was born Jan. 15, 1915 to Victor and Fanny (Korteniemi) Maki in Spruce Valley Township, Marshall County, Minn. Helen grew up in Middle River and Esko, Minn., then moved to Litchfield, where she worked in the woolen mills.
Helen was married to Orville Titrud June 25, 1938. The couple farmed on the Titrud homestead in Stockholm, Minn.
They lived in Rapidan, Minn. from 1956 to 1982, returning to the farm in Stockholm to spend their retirement years. Helen lived on the farm until 2001, when she moved to Cokato.
Helen was employed by Farmers State Bank of Rapidan, and Security State Bank of Mankato for 25 years, retiring in 1982 as vice president.
She was a very active member of Stockholm Lutheran Church in Cokato, and Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapidan.
Helen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Roger Harkins of Wasilla, Alaska; son Steve of Omaha, Neb.; grandsons Randy Harkins, Brian Harkins, and Greg Harkins of Alaska; and Brendan Titrud of Nebraska; great-grandchildren Brenan and Skylar Harkins of Alaska; sisters Aini Myking of Duluth, and Velma Smerdon of Grants Pass, Ore.; sister-in-law Bernice Titrud of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Orville in 1981; brothers Toivo, Waino, Fredrick, Jack, Edward, and Arnold; sisters Julia and Faye; grandson Donald; and brother-in-law Howard Titrud.
Funeral services were Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at Stockholm Lutheran Church, south of Cokato. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Visitation took place Friday, June 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
