Ardell R. Wasser, age 73, of Watertown, died Friday Aug. 18, 2006 at Falls Memorial Hospital in International Falls.
He was born Aug. 9, 1933, in Mayer, the son of Otto. L. and Louise A. (Hill) Wasser.
As a member of the FFA, Ardell was named “State Farmer” in 1951.
He served proudly in the US Army from January 1955 to January 1957.
Ardell married Avelyne E. Bauer July 29, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.
Ardell was involved in many activities during his lifetime at a local level, such as belonging to the Walther League at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, volunteering to maintain the Watertown Public Cemetery, and as a member of the Watertown Lions Club for many years. He enjoyed going to church and being on the church board.
He was employed at the Bremer Bank in Watertown for 30 years.
Ardell played on the Mayer baseball “town team.” His many favorite activities included bowling, fast-pitch softball, golf, deer hunting, and going to Mystic Lake and playing the “slots.” He also enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, fishing, and going “up north” with friends or family.
Ardell enjoyed watching his son, David play baseball, and coached Little League baseball, and metro league basketball teams. He loved being with his coffee buddies at Riverside, and enjoyed traveling with his family to see God’s beautiful country.
Ardell is survived by his loving family: wife Avie; children and spouses, Linda (Wasser) Fiecke of St. Michael, ]on and Deb Wasser of Watertown, Susan and Bruce Wandersee of Waconia, and David and ]ill Wasser of Mayer; grandchildren Danny Fiecke, Leah Fiecke, Shawn, Lesley, Jackie, and Gina Wasser; Kayla, Erin, and Lauren Wandersee; and Isaiah Wasser.
He is further survived by a sister, JoAnn Wasser of Watertown; brother and sister-in-law Lowell and Sharon Wasser of Mayer; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Joyce and John Baird, Jan and Chuck Hughes, all of Blackduck, Ed and Ruth Bauer of Las Vegas, Nev., Connie and Dennis Maetzold of Bloomington, Elwin and Reneé Bauer of Watertown, Judy and Gary Perry of Hamburg, and Wayne and Paula Bauer of Ohio; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Ardell was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Louise Wasser; a brother, Wallace Wasser; and a sister in infancy.
A memorial service took place Saturday Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Paul Krentz officiating. Interment was in Watertown Public Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Robert Schwichtenberg, Dan Aschbrenner, Ron Zellmann, Bill Lenz, Roger Lyzhoft, and Chuck Hughes.
Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
