Robert T. Ackerman
Robert T. Ackerman, age 88, of Bloomington, formerly of Cokato, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Minnesota Masonic Home Care Center in Bloomington.
He was born Feb. 1, 1919 in Willmar, the son of Martha (Berg) and Russell Ackerman. Robert grew up in the Willmar community and in 1937, graduated from the Willmar High School.
While growing up in Willmar, he worked in the family meat business. He participated in basketball while in high school and was a lifelong avid hunter and fisherman.
Following high school, Robert attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.
He served stateside in the US Navy during World War II.
In 1940, Robert was married to Marvis Hogan in Willmar.
He was appointed to the Minnesota State Patrol in 1948.
In 1949, he was married to Norma Christopher.
Throughout his career with the Minnesota State Patrol, he served postings in western Minnesota, Cokato, Mankato, and Rochester. He retired from the state patrol in 1978 as captain of the 2100 District after 30 years of service.
Following his retirement, Robert remained a long time resident of the Rochester area, before moving to Cokato in 2001, and later to the Metro area to be closer to family members.
He is survived by four sons, Larry (and Kathy) Ackerman of Litchfield, James (and Jan) Ackerman of New London, Rick (and Joyce) Ackerman of Bemidji, Christopher Ackerman of Chanhassen; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Robert is also survived by a brother, John (and Shirley) Ackerman of Ely; a sister, Margret Miller of Cottonwood, Ariz.; and former wife, Marvis Schiro of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; and a brother, Ivan Ackerman.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with Jan Ackerman officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
