Beatrice Marie Barton
Beatrice Marie Barton, age 85, of Silver Lake, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
She was born Sept. 4, 1921 in Silver Lake, the daughter of William and Alice (Polak) Urban. Beatrice was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both in Silver Lake.
She received her education in the Silver Lake area, and was a graduate of the Silver Lake High School class of 1938. Beatrice furthered her education at Mankato Commercial College in Mankato.
Beatrice was united in marriage to Herald Barton June 25, 1941, in Holdingford, Minn. This marriage was blessed with three sons.
Beatrice and Herald resided in Silver Lake until 1951, when they moved to Beatrice’s home farm in Hale Township, McLeod County. They shared 65 years of marriage.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Beatrice helped at the family hatchery for 25 years. She was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson, where she was a member of the Women’s Fellowship.
She was also a member of the Silver Lake American Legion Post 141 Auxiliary and taught Sunday school for 20 years.
Bernice served as a volunteer at the Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson for the past 20 years. She was a kind and gentle woman, whose bright eyes and warm smile will be missed by the many residents there. She always kept a positive attitude and preferred to see the goodness in those she encountered.
Beatrice enjoyed solving word puzzles and cross-stitching. She especially enjoyed the time she spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Beatrice is survived by her husband, Herald Barton of Silver Lake; sons, William Barton of Hutchinson, Robert Barton of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Barry Barton and his wife, Sharon, of Hutchinson; grandchildren Eve Lee, Katie Rehmann, Paul Barton, Michael Barton, Lisa Cleveland, David Barton, Amy Barton, and Anna Barton and great-grandchildren Mitchel Cleveland, Joey Cleveland, Carter Barton, Trevor Barton, Josiah Rehmann, Isabel Rehmann, Elias Rehmann, Alison Rehmann, Gabriella Lee, Mathias Lee, Lola Barton, and Leila Barton.
She is further survived by a brother, Willard Urban and his wife, Martha, of Silver Lake; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alice Urban; a brother, Gilbert Urban and his wife, Bea; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Barton.
Funeral services were Thursday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hutchinson, with the Rev. Brian Brosz officiating. Organist was Pearl Seale. Soloist Jackie Konerza sang “Beyond The Sunset,” and Rev. Brosz also sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “Just As I Am” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”Interment with an honor guard by the Silver Lake American Legion Post 141 Auxiliary took place at the Grace Bible Church Cemetery (formerly known as the Congregational Church Cemetery) in Silver Lake.
Casket bearers were grandchildren Eve Lee, Katie Rehmann, Paul Barton, Michael Barton, Lisa Cleveland, David Barton, Amy Barton, and Anna Barton.
