Hildegard Lydia Emma Bentz
Hildegard Lydia Emma Bentz, age 94, of Hamburg, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007 at Waconia Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Dec. 19, 1912 in Hamburg, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Henschen) Bergmann. Hildegard was baptized Dec. 29, 1912 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Hamburg by the Rev. H. J. Bouman, and confirmed by the same April 10, 1927.
Hildegard attended the Emanuel Lutheran School.
She was united in marriage with Friedrich A. Bentz June 4, 1933 at Emanuel Lutheran by Rev. Bouman. The couple made their home in rural Lester Prairie for five years before moving to the Bentz family farm outside of Hamburg.
A lifelong member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hildegard was a past member of its choir. She had served as the chairwoman for the Ladies Aid quilters for many years.
Hildegard enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Many of the items she made were given to her family members. She especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.
Hildegard is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law Leonard Heuer; sister Verna Herrmann; infant brother Edward; sisters-in-law Ellen Bergmann, Eveline Herrmann; and brothers-in-law Otto Mackenthun, Henry Gruenhagen, and Virgil Herrmann.
She is survived by her daughters, Myra Heuer, and Diane Pawelk (husband Jerry), all of Lester Prairie; grandchildren Mark Heuer (wife Sheila) of Lake Crystal, Daniel Heuer (wife Debbie) of Fremont, Neb., Thomas Heuer (wife Lori) of Hamburg, Fred Pawelk (wife Heidi) of Lester Prairie, and Francine Mocchi (husband Rick) of Champlin; and great-grandchildren Amy Heuer, Jayson Heuer, Heidi Heuer, Aaron Heuer (wife Ines), Sarah Sankey (husband Thad), Rebekah Heuer, John Heuer, Melissa Heuer, Philip Heuer, Angela Heuer, Jessica Heuer, Elizabeth Pawelk, Faith Pawelk, Nathaniel Pawelk, Christian Mocchi, Ethan Mocchi, and Gabrielle Mocchi.
Hildegard is further survived by sisters Olga Mackenthun, Irene Gruenhagen, and Renata Herrmann; brother Willard Bergmann; and brother-in-law Mervin Herrmann; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Hamburg with the Rev. Donald Andrix officiating. Selected scripture was read by Rev. Daniel Heuer. The organist was Betsy Werner. Congregational hymns were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Just As I Am.” Hildegard’s grandchildren led the congregation in “Abide With Me.” The Emanuel Ladies Aid sang “Thanks to Thee, O Christ, Victorious.” Interment was in the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Jerry Pawelk, Mark Heuer, Daniel Heuer, Thomas Heuer, Fred Pawelk and Rick Mocchi.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America.
