Gordon L. Boelke
Gordon L. Boelke, age 66, of Cologne, died Wednesday Feb. 21, 2007 at his home in Benton Twp. Cologne.
He was born June 5, 1940 in Wells, Minn., the son of Lester C. and Mildred V. (Bebler) Boelke. He was baptized June 30, 1940 at American Lutheran Church in Wells by the Rev. William Ganschow, and confirmed April 11, 1954 at the same church by the Rev. H. M. J. Schmitt.
He graduated from Central High School in Norwood Young America.
Gordon was united in marriage to Lorraine D. McGowen Aug. 5, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Twp. Cologne by the Rev. John Melchert.
A loving husband, dad and papa, Gordon enjoyed farming, and country and old Tyme music. He belonged to two bands, the Pioneers and the Roadrunners. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He took pilot training, and soloed in the late 1980s.
Gordon was very involved in Zion Lutheran School and was a former member on the board of directors at Mayer Lutheran High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mildred Boelke; father-in-law Dorwin McGowen Sr.; sister-in-law Elouise Farmer; and brother-in-law Alan Leiding.
Gordon is survived by his loving family; wife Lorraine, daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Terry Walter of Norwood Young America; son and daughter-in-law Rodney and Ann Boelke of Cologne; and grandchildren Kindra, Krianna, Karrington, and Kenson Boelke.
He is further survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Genelle and Gerald Schimelpfenig of Norwood Young America; mother-in-law Malinda McGowen of Norwood Young America; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law LaVerne and Glenard Schrupp of Norwood Young America, Dorwin and Betty McGowen Jr. of Prior Lake, Shirley Leiding of Orr, and LeRoy and Beverly McGowen of Jordan; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Saturday Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church Benton Twp. Cologne, with the Rev. Eric Zacharias officiating. Interment was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket Bearers were Rodney Boelke, Mike Pieper, Clarence Stender Jr., Bradley Schrupp, Donald Tatge, John Schimelpfenig, Stanley Treichel, and Howard Treichel.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
