Nancy J. Delin
Nancy J. Delin, age 64, of Waconia, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 at her home in Waconia, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Nancy was born Oct. 27, 1942 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Truman and Janice (Hansen) Robertson.
When she was 5, Nancy’s parents moved to Rhinelander, Wis., where she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1960. It was during those years that she helped her parents start their Christian camping ministry called Fort Wilderness.
She attended Bethel College in St. Paul, graduating with bachelor of arts degrees in English and biology in 1964.
She met Norman L. Delin, the love of her life, while student teaching at Roosevelt High School. Nancy and Norman were united in marriage June 12, 1965 at Calvary Baptist Church in Rhinelander, Wis.
Nancy taught English at Jordan Junior High in Minneapolis from 1966 to 1968. When her daughters were born, in 1968 and 1973, she spent several years as a homemaker, also giving time to volunteer work. She started the volunteer program at Ridgeview Medical Center, which included Dinner at Your Door.
In 1978, she began a career in Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), serving as the coordinator for the Carver/Scott Cooperative. In 1990, Nancy accepted a position as ECFE coordinator for the Edina Public Schools, serving there until 2004.
She was very passionate about her work and the people that she worked alongside. Nancy received many prestigious awards and honors throughout her career, most recently giving the Martha Stanley keynote address in April 2005.
During her lifetime, Nancy attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waconia, Excelsior Covenant in Excelsior, and was currently a member of Waterbrooke Fellowship Church in Victoria. She enjoyed being involved in ministry through teaching both adults and children, being a part of Women’s Ministries, and singing in the choir.
Nancy’s favorite days were spent with her children and grandchildren. A wonderful hostess, she loved having extended family and friends come to her home for weekend visits and dinner parties. Nancy loved to set a beautiful table, was a wonderful cook, and she made any gathering a special occasion.
Nancy also loved reading, and was a member of the Sagasu Book Club in Waconia for over 30 years. She had a strong appreciation for the fine arts, and she and Norman enjoyed going to Orchestra Hall, the Ordway, the Chanhassen Dinner Theater, and all the museums in the Twin Cities.
A wonderful writer and speaker, Nancy presented to more than 500 different audiences on topics related to her passion of building strong families and strong organizations.
Nancy and Norman enjoyed traveling, their most recent trip being in October, 2006 to visit Norman’s brother and wife in Istanbul, Turkey.
Most importantly, the Lord drew Nancy to Himself at an early age. She trusted Jesus for her salvation and lived her life wanting to glorify Him. Her life verse was Romans 8:38-39: “For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
