Luella Ann “Sis” Eckelberry
Luella Ann “Sis” Eckelberry, age 99, of Winsted, died Wednesday morning, April 18, 2007 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
A memorial Mass will take place Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with visitation for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. The Rev. Paul L. Wolf will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at the Kreidler Cemetery in rural Montrose.
Luella was born June 4, 1907 in Glasgow, Mont., the daughter of Martin and Anna Marsolek Gritz.
Luella and Elmer Eckelberry were joined in holy marriage Oct. 2, 1933, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Elmer and Luella engaged in farming near Montrose. Luella was also formerly employed as a telephone operator in Waverly, and Luella and Elmer were also former caretakers for an estate on Lake Minnetonka.
A member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, Luella belonged to St. Anne’s Society. She was also a member of VFW Post 1901’s Auxiliary, Home Extension and the QQ Club. Years ago, when her children were growing up, Luella was active in The Montrose Miracles 4-H Club.
She is survived by her loving children: LeRoy Eckelberry of Winsted, Carol (Ray) Bayerl of Lester Prairie, Connie Krause of Howard Lake, and Bruce Eckelberry of Milaca; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brothers, LeRoy “Hans” (Joan) Gritz of San Diego, Calif.; and Francis “Fritz” Gritz of Waverly; brother-in-law Ray Ruzicka of Winsted; many other relatives and friends.
Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Eckelberry, Dec. 19, 1971; a daughter, Darlene Eckelberry; son-in-law David Krause; her parents, Martin and Anna Gritz; and siblings: George, Raphael, and Barney Gritz, Anastasia Schermann, Frances “Babe” Gritz, and Lillian “Billie” Ruzicka.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted is serving the family.
