Florence Estelle Erickson
Florence Estelle Erickson, age 92, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Litchfield and Dassel, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 at the Sun Grove Village Care in Peoria, Ariz.
A memorial service will take place Friday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating, followed by inurnment at the Dassel Cemetery. There will be a time to gather with family before the service.
Florence was born Feb. 24, 1914 in Meeker County, the daughter of Magnus and Harriet (Dorman) Johnson. She grew up in the Kingston area, where she attended district school for her education.
Florence was baptized and later confirmed at the Mission Covenant Church in Dassel.
She was united in marriage to Delmar Erickson June 30, 1934 at the Evangelical Covenant minister’s home in Dassel. Together, Delmar and Florence made their home on a farm northwest of Dassel in the Swan Lake community.
After Delmar’s death, Florence moved to Litchfield, where she made her home on Lake Ripley. She moved to Shoreview for three years, and then decided to move back to Litchfield, where she resided until 1990, when she moved to Maple Grove to live with her daughter.
In 2002, Florence moved into the North Ridge Nursing Home in New Hope, where she lived until 2005, when she moved to the Sun Grove Village Care in Peoria, Ariz.
Florence was an accomplished painter, painting many oil landscape paintings for family and friends. She was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, where she was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church Ladies organization. She enjoyed fishing, and would often be found throwing a fishing line into Lake Ripley from the end of her dock.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Winnifred A. Nelson of Maple Lake; three grandsons, Ricky Nelson of Peoria, Ariz., Daniel Nelson of Maple Lake, and David Nelson of Lakeville; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Delmar, Florence was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremy Nelson; her parents; three brothers, Victor Johnson, Francis Johnson, and Magnus Johnson Jr.; and two sisters, Lillian Pankake and Agnus Meline.
Arrangements are being handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
