JoArda Harriet Ernst, age 77, of Norwood Young America, formerly of Lester Prairie, died Friday, July 20, 2007.
She was born March 14, 1930 in Winsted, the daughter of Harrie and Ella (Breyer) Stuedemann. JoArda was both baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
She graduated from the Lester Prairie High School, where she was chosen homecoming queen. After high school, JoArda was named Miss Lester Prairie.
JoArda was united in marriage with Alvin Ernst June 24, 1951 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm on the west side of Lester Prairie.
During her marriage, JoArda trained to become a licensed practical nurse. She also worked for the bank in Lester Prairie, for Gage Marketing in Howard Lake, and for Medallion Kitchens in Waconia.
For the past 12 years, JoArda has been a resident of Norwood Young America.
JoArda loved visiting with family and friends. They will remember her as a very musical, generous person who always put others before herself. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, fishing, and singing, and often sang for funerals and weddings.
JoArda was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, and a sister, Fern.
She is survived by her children, Gayle Macht (husband Larry) of Glencoe, Gwyn Malecek (husband Steve) of Hutchinson, and Jason Ernst (wife Lois) of Lester Prairie; grandchildren Gregory Macht, Laura Macht, Teresa Francis (husband Aaron), Nichole Rettman (fiancé Tim Boehnke), Justine Ernst, Derek Ernst, and Jonathan Ernst; and great-grandchildren Kian and Rylan Francis.
JoArda is further survived by a sister, Lois Cardarelle (husband Frank); special friend Richard Amundson of Norwood Young America; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life took place Tuesday, July 31 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Eric Nelson officiating. Marsha Christenson served as organist, and instrumental accompaniment was provided by special family members. Music selections were “Beautiful Savior,” “God of Our Fathers,” “The Lord’s Prayer,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Interment was in the church cemetery.
Visitation took place for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements were with the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Lester Prairie.
