Agnes S. Fabel
\Agnes S. Fabel, age 94, of Waconia, formerly of Delano, passed away Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
She was born Jan. 9, 1913 in St. Thomas Conception Bay, Newfoundland, the daughter of Michael and Julia (Laurie) Stapleton. Agnes was the third oldest of 12 children.
She met her future husband, Henry C. Fabel of Delano, while he was working on military construction projects in Newfoundland during World War II. They were married in Minneapolis Oct. 6, 1944.
In the early years of their marriage, Agnes and Henry lived in various towns in Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Nebraska while Henry worked for Peter Kiewit Construction Company of Omaha, Neb.
Agnes resided near Delano from 1957 until moving to Waconia in 1997.
She enjoyed gardening and needle work, and took pride in her ability to knit mittens and caps to donate to charities.
Agnes is survived by her loving family, sons and daughters-in-law R. Douglas and Terri Fabel of Merritt Island, Fla. and Blowing Rock N.C, and Dennis and Maureen Fabel of Columbia Md.; daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Mark Stewart of Ottawa Hills, Ohio; grandchildren R. Douglas and Tracy Fabel Jr., Michael and Kendra Fabel, Brian Fabel, Sean Fabel, Ellen Stewart, and Ann Stewart; and great-grandchildren Mason, Autumn, Emma, Joshua, Haley, Joey and Elizabeth.
She is further survived by her sisters, Winnie Fowler and Helen O’Keefe, both of St. John’s, Newfoundland; brother and sister-in-law Vincent and Mary Stapleton of Kelligrews, Newfoundland; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents Michael and Julia Stapleton; sisters Edith Stapleton, Mary Quigley, Sister Mercedes Gregory, and Bridget Stapleton; brothers Leo, Frank, Thomas and Joseph Stapleton; mother-in-law and father-in-law Mathilda and Albert Fabel; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Floyd and Ella Fabel, Winnifred and George Stockman, and Inez Griep.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday Aug. 22 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano with Father Michael J. Miller as celebrant of the Mass. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Delano.
Casket bearers were R. Douglas Fabel Jr., Michael Fabel, Brian Fabel, Sean Fabel, Ellen Stewart, and Ann Stewart. Honorary casket bearers were Myron and Annabel Fabel.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
