Gladys Eldora Forsberg
Gladys Eldora Forsberg, age 85, of Cokato, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007.
She was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Annandale to Nels and Hilma (Persson) Nelson, and grew up on the family farm one mile east of Annandale.
In 1939, Gladys graduated from Annandale High School as valedictorian of her class. Ruby Young and Irene (Lundeen) Wessman were her best friends in high school, known collectively as “The Three Musketeers.”
After graduation, Gladys worked in Minneapolis at various jobs and attended First Covenant Church. In 1939, she accepted Christ as her Savior and from that day forward, she continued to rely on Him through her many ups and downs of life.
On the steps of the Maywood Church in Foley, Gladys first met Paul Forsberg in the summer of 1942. They married May 20, 1944, and lived in the Foley area until they purchased their farm in Cokato in 1948. There, Paul and Gladys raised their sons and farmed.
Elim Mission Church became their new church home, and Gladys enjoyed being involved with teaching Sunday school, Bible school, AWANA, and playing the piano for various activities. She also enjoyed being a member of Dorcas and participating in many service projects.
Paul and Gladys retired from farming and enjoyed painting and wallpapering together until Paul’s death in 1985.
Gladys continued life’s journey and purchased a house in Cokato in 1990, just two years before the infamous tornado destroyed it. Again, the Lord watched over her and she was able to rebuild the house with the help of her son, Dennis, and his two sons.
She enjoyed quilting and made many quilts for grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Gladys also enjoyed going to garage sales and entertaining friends.
Gladys moved to Cokato Manor in 2003, where she enjoyed faithful visitors and a caring and loving staff, whom she appreciated.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Kathy) of Shoreview, and Dwight (Linda) of Maple Grove; grandchildren, Neil, Matt, Sara, Rachel, Kari Lewis (Corby), Katie, and Mark; sisters-in-law, Marlyce Tengwall (Howard) and Dorothy Forsberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service took place Tuesday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at Elim Mission Church with the Rev. Wally Glucklich officiating. Music was provided by Janet Moberg, Bev Irvin, Wanda Felmlee, and Marie Nyquist. Interment was at Cokato City Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Gladys’ grandchildren: Neil Forsberg, Matt Forsberg, Sara Forsberg, Rachel Forsberg, Kari Forsberg, Katie Forsberg, and Mark Forsberg.
Arrangements were by the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
