Clifford Allen Freeman
Clifford Allen Freeman, age 65, of Dassel, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
He was born Dec. 3, 1941 in Dassel Township, Meeker County, the son of Gustaf and Esther (Nelson) Freeman.
Clifford lived his entire life on the family farm. He attended the Maynard Lake School and graduated from Dassel High School in 1958, at the age of 16.
Clifford married Sandra (Leukuma) Johnson Aug. 20, 1966, at the First Lutheran Church (Gethsemane) in Dassel. They were happily married for 40 years.
Together, Clifford and Sandra farmed, milked, and raised cattle on their third-generation family farm.
For the past 11 years, Clifford worked at Miller Manufacturing.
Clifford loved farming, and it was a big part of who he was. He volunteered his time with several agricultural organizations including the Meeker County Farm Bureau and the Dassel Creamery Board. He also served on the Collinwood Insurance Board and the Swan Lake Cemetery Board.
Clifford enjoyed reading, hunting, visiting with friends and family, and playing cards. He had a wonderful, dry sense of humor, and was always willing to lend a hand to a friend. A kind and generous man, Clifford will be deeply missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Dassel; son Todd (Melissa) Freeman of Dassel; daughter Jennifer Freeman and husband (Chad Loshbaugh) of Albany, N.Y.; grandson Gustaf Freeman; sisters Rose (John) O’Fallon, and Dolores (Warren) Hogberg, all of Annandale; sisters-in-law Betty Freeman of Annandale, and Louise Freeman of Richfield; and brother-in-law Gerhard Hendrickson of Minneapolis.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Earl Freeman; and two sisters, Grace Hendrickson, and Fern, in infancy.
A memorial service took place Wednesday, May 9 at 2 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. Steven Olson officiating. The eulogy was given by Ron Freeman. Organist was Florine Osness, and congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” and “Softly and Tenderly.” Soloist Sheldon Hedin sang “Beautiful Savior” and “ In The Garden.” An inurnment service will take place at the Swan Lake Cemetery at a later date.
There was a time to gather with family and friends Tuesday evening, May 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
Honorary bearers were Jerry Schaefer, John McGinty, Dick Johnson, Virgil Larson, John Juusola, Orville Anderson, Carl Townsend, and John Isaacson.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
