Orville A. Graunke, age 80, of Norwood Young America died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born April 17, 1927 in Mayer, the son of Albert and Emma (Rolf) Graunke. Orville was baptized May 1, 1927 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. F. W. Erthal; and confirmed March 29, 1942 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf.
Orville was united in marriage to Verna F. Dalchow June 28, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. Robert Heyne.
He was very active at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, serving as a church trustee for eight years, a steward for many years, an usher, and helping to paint the church. Orville enjoyed and helped people for many years, especially driving people for different occasions.
He loved farming, fishing, bird watching and feeding, playing cards and old tyme music, and was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
Orville was preceded in death by son-in-law Patrick McGee; father and mother, Albert and Emma Graunke; brothers Merlin, Wilbur, and Delphon Graunke; infant sister Ethel Graunke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Louise Dalchow; and brother-in-law Virgil Clausen.
He is survived by his loving family: wife Verna; daughters and son-in-law, Sharon and John R. Miller of Norwood Young America, Eileen McGee of Norwood Young America and special friend John Bauck of Battle Lake, and Gale Graunke of Waconia; grandchildren John T. and Chris Miller, Nathan and Jaime Wiemann, Stephanie and Matt Fasching, Nicole Melichar, and Joe Melichar; and great-grandchild Devin Fasching.
Orville is further survived by brothers, sisters, and spouses, Willard and Charlotte Graunke of Cannon Falls, Leora and Eldon Krause of Park Rapids, Donna Brown of Lakeville, Myra and Gene Kusha of Delano, Carol and Garry Brausen of Buffalo, and Janice and Norris Hirsch of Nevis; sisters-in-law Mae Graunke of Park Rapids, Dorothy Graunke of Norwood Young America, and Joyce Graunke of Rockford; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Milfred and Gwen Dalchow of Mayer, Gladys Clausen of Eden Prairie, Lorena and Linus Remer of Maple Grove, Roy and Luella Dalchow of Montrose, Leonard Dalchow of Rogers, and Laura Dalchow of Buffalo; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was Friday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America with the Rev. David Winter officiating. Interment was at Mau Memorial Cemetery in Young America.
Casket bearers were Orville’s nephews, Jeff Hirsch, Mark Krause, Jamie Brausen, Randy Graunke, Dale Graunke, and Larry Graunke.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
