Viola L. Hartwig
Viola L. Hartwig, age 85, of Waconia, formerly of Mayer, died Wednesday Sept. 19, 2007 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Viola was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Camden Twp. Carver County, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Zuehl) Hafemann. She was baptized Oct. 23, 1921, and confirmed April 14, 1935 at St. Mark Lutheran Church by the Rev. Theodore Rolf.
She was united in marriage to Omar W. Hartwig Sept. 20, 1940 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany by the Rev. Theodore Rolf.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Omar Hartwig; parents, Albert and Bertha Hafemann; sister LaVon Venske; brother-in-law Elmer Schroeder; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louis and Elsie Hartwig; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Alvin Dreier, and Roy and Erna Hartwig.
A loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, Viola enjoyed cooking, baking, tending her flowers, and old tyme music.
She is survived by her loving family: children and spouses, Ronald and Susan Hartwig of Mayer, Lyle and Joanne Hartwig of Mayer, and Nancy and Kenneth Drew of Brooklyn Park; grandchildren, Michael Hartwig, Nicholas and Jennifer Hartwig, Lottie and Jason Roth, and Melissa and Bobby Vogelpohl; and great-grandchildren, Coy, Devyn and Reese.
Viola is further survived by a sister, Myrtle Schroeder of New Germany; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Norman Venske of Lester Prairie, Helen Dreier of Waconia, Sally and Russ Olson of Mayer, and Lorraine Jurek of Hutchinson; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany with the Rev. Allen Holthus officiating. Interment was at St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery in New Germany.
Casket bearers were Michael Hartwig, Nicholas Hartwig, Lottie Roth, Melissa Vogelpohl, Jason Roth, and Bobby Vogelpohl.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
