Art E. Hilgers
Art E. Hilgers, age 68 of Cologne, passed away Friday June 1, 2007 at his home in Cologne.
Art was born on December 19, 1938 at Benton Twp. Cologne, the son of Eugene W. and Germain L. (Schechter) Hilgers.
He married Helen I. Aretz September 12, 1959 at St. Victoria Catholic Church in Victoria.
Art was a loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Art enjoyed playing cards and fishing. Art showed his family how to work but also how to love.
Art was preceded in death by a baby girl; his father, Eugene Hilgers; father-in-law, Anthony Aretz; brother-in-law, Russ Mader; sister-in-law, Sandy Hilgers.
Art is survived by his loving family: wife Helen; children and spouses, Ron Hilgers of Cologne, Bobby Hilgers and fiancé Laurie Hahn of Green Isle, Cindy and Larry Schmidt of Norwood Young America, Sandy and Jim Bengtson of Cologne, Jeff and Amy Hilgers of Mayer, Dave and Mary Hilgers of Mayer, and Kate and Jeff Degn of Glencoe.
Grandchildren Kyle Hilgers, Lindsay Schmidt, Alex Schmidt, Emma Schmidt, Brittany Geib, Isabella Hilgers, Zackary Hilgers, Bailey Hilgers, Garrett Hilgers, Austin Hilgers, Payton Degn, Collin Degn, Kristin Henning, Philip Henning; great-grandson Riley Geib; mother, Germaine Hilgers of Waconia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ardis and Allen Kunze of Norwood Young America, Carol and William Boll of Excelsior, Clara Stevenson and Paul Brohm of Waconia, Lois Mader and special friend Ray Williams.

Casket bearers were Ron Hilgers, Bobby Hilgers, Jeff Hilgers, Dave Hilgers, Larry Schmidt, Jim Bengtson, and Jeff Degn. Honorary Casket Bearers were Cindy Schmidt, Sandy Bengtson, Kate Degn, Laurie Hahn, Amy Hilgers, and Mary Hilgers.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday June 4, 2007 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne, with Father Martin Shallbetter as celebrant of the mass. Interment was at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
