Irene Holtz Obituary – 11/20/07


Irene Holtz, age 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007 at Howard Lake Good Samaritan Home.

She was born Oct. 13, 1926, in Winnebago, Minn. to Leon and Mabel (Hislop) McIntyre. Irene attended Grove City High School.

After high school, she attended the University of Minnesota and then went on to complete her teacher training in Litchfield. She taught at several country schools.

Irene married Albert John Holtz April 7, 1947. They farmed for seven years; and in 1954, they purchased the Northland Café in Grove City.

After moving back to Howard Lake in 1964, Irene went back to teaching for several years, and then was a cook at the Howard Lake Schools before retiring.

Irene loved to cook for her family. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, and reading.

She is survived by sons, Michael (Joan) Holtz of Robbinsdale, and Doug (Jan) Holtz of Highland Heights, Ohio; daughters, Michele (Chuck) Herman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, LuAnn (Dennis) Entinger of Howard Lake, Ida (Randy) Boike of Champlin, and Kim (Kevin) Luhman of Monticello; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia (DelRoy) Johnson and Lela Walsh; and other relatives and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter; and a daughter-in-law.

Funeral services tok place Saturday, Nov. 24 at 11 am. at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake with the Revs. Myra Carroll-Pezzella and DelRoy Johnson officiating. Music was provided by Patricia Munson, Dennis Entinger, and Tom and Carol Entinger. Interment was in the Howard Lake City Cemetery,

Casket bearers were Daren Johnson, Cory Walsh, Richard Holtz, Lloyd Mahn, Gary Holtz, and Bruce Holtz. Irene’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honorary casket bearers.

Arrangements were by the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake.
