Jean Janna Hoof
Jean Janna Hoof, age 74, of Glencoe, formerly of rural Plato, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Glencoe Regional Health Care Center Long Term Care.
She was born Sept. 17, 1932, at the family home in Penn Township, McLeod County, the daughter of George and Selda (Kloempken) Hantge. Jean was baptized as an infant Oct. 2, 1932, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth in 1946 by Pastor J.H. Kolberg, both at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Penn Twp.
Jean received her elementary education at country school District 64 in Penn Twp., and was a graduate of the Brownton High School class of 1950.
Jean was united in marriage to Myron W. Hoof Oct. 18, 1959 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Penn Twp. by the Rev. E. W. Lehne. This marriage was blessed with three children.
Jean and Myron resided and farmed in Bergen Township, rural Plato, for over 30 years. They then moved to Glenview Woods in Glencoe. Myron and Jean shared over 41 years of marriage, until Myron died May 19, 2001.
Jean held employment as a waitress for many years at the Green Lantern Café, and worked as a clerk at Bush Brothers Grocery Store in Gaylord. Later, Jean held employment as a waitress at Kube’s Supper Club in Norwood, and then at the Hillcrest Café near Norwood.
She was a long-time member of Prairie Community Church, United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie.
Jean loved to go to dances, liked flowers and birds, going for car rides, and always remembered her family and friends by sending greeting cards. For many years, she loved the company of her little dog, Mitzie. Her family and all of her grandchildren were very special to her and would refer to her as “Grandma Jean.”
In 1995, Jean suffered a stroke at her home in Glencoe, and was lovingly cared for by her husband for many years. She became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services, Long Term Care Nov. 1, 2000.
Jean is survived by her children, Jeff Hoof of Edina, Jill Marconcini and her husband, Victor of Folsom, Calif., and Jennifer McCabe and her husband, Tim of Waconia; grandchildren, Jordan Hoof, Jason Marconcini, Sara Marconcini, Nikolas Marconcini, Madison McCabe, Jack McCabe, Shea McCabe and Ryan McCabe; siblings, Everett Hantge and his wife, Katherine of Litchfield, Don Hantge and his wife, Bobbi of Hutchinson, Norene Schuette and her husband, Duane, Eldon Hantge and his wife, Marilyn, all of Glencoe, and LeaEtte Peters and her husband, Dale of Brownton; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Myron, Jean was preceded in death by her parents, George and Selda Hantge; sister, Rhonda Buske; and parents-in-law, John A. and Lillian Hoof.
Funeral service was Wednesday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at the Prairie Community Church, United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie, with Pastor Bill Baldwin officiating. Music was provided by organist Marie Eischens, and a recording of “Amazing Grace” played on guitar by Rick Schuette. Congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art” and “God Be With You Till We Meet Again.” Interment was in St. Matthews Cemetery in Penn Twp.
Casket bearers were Tim McCabe, Victor Marconcini, Richard Hantge, Rick Schuette, Jason Marconcini, Everett Hantge, Eldon Hantge, and Don Hantge.
Honorary bearers were Norene Schuette, LeaEtte Peters, Delores Spiering, Donna LaGow, Sara Marconcini, Jordan Hoof, Madison McCabe, and Shea McCabe.
