Joyce Anna Johnson, age 66, of Cokato, died Thursday, May 24, 2007 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
She was born Feb. 27, 1941, to Eino and Hilma (Pippo) Greku in Cokato. She graduated from Cokato High School in 1959.
Joyce was married to George E. Johnson April 16, 1960 in Cokato. God blessed this union of 47 years with 11 children. Joyce often said that the best years of her life were when she was raising her children.
She worked as a homemaker, was employed as a nursing assistant at Cokato Manor, then at 3M, and she retired after 11 years at Faribault Foods in 2005.
Joyce was an active member of Laestadian Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Minnesota, Arizona, Washington, and Michigan. Joyce also enjoyed traveling, but she loved being in the home in which she raised her children.
She served as vice president of the Cokato Finnish Historical Society.
Joyce had an independent spirit. She was also determined to live life to its fullest, especially with loved ones. Joyce will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her faithful and loving husband, George; her children, Joann (Rick) Clarke of Longview, Wash., Vickie (Phil) Janckila, Dean (Tammy), all of Cokato, Karen (Jamie) Lever of Stanwood, Wash., David of Kingston, Arlene (Jarl) Niemela of Snohomish, Wash., Carol (Jarrett) Gilmer of Hutchinson, Sandra (Randy) Fehn of Annandale, Christine of Plymouth, Rebecca (Neil) Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz., and Eric of Cokato; sisters, Helen (Ruben) Mytty of Carbondale, Colo., and Pearl (Peter) Johnson of Brighton, Mich.; brother Carl (Linda) Greku of Cokato; 48 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Eino and Hilma Greku; a sister, Nancy Jane Greku; and a grandson, Grant Richard Clarke.
Funeral service was Tuesday, May 29 at 11 a.m. at the Laestadian Congregation of Cokato with Pastor George Koivukangas officiating. Music was provided by Heidi Raisanen. Interment was in Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Rick Clarke, Randy Fehn, Jarrett Gilmer, Phil Janckila, David Johnson, Dean Johnson, Eric Johnson, Jamie Lever, Jarl Niemela, and Neil Roberts.
Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
