Loretta I. Jopp
Loretta I. Jopp, age 91, of New Germany, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born Jan. 2, 1916 at Waconia, the daughter of Paul and Louise (Hasse) Schwalbe. Loretta was baptized Feb. 6, 1916 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown by the Rev. J. A. Wagner, and confirmed June 7, 1931 at the same church by the Rev. M. Levander.
She graduated from Watertown High School in 1935, and then went to Eitel Hospital nurses’ training in Minneapolis, graduating in 1938.
Loretta married Vernon R. Jopp Oct. 10, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with the Rev. William Schneider officiating.
Loretta was a registered nurse at the Watertown Community Hospital, and at Green Giant. She also was a private duty nurse for some time in her life.
She enjoyed baking, gardening, working with roses and violets, and canning vegetables; and loved to crochet doilies and do fancy work. Loretta was a 4H leader and belonged to the Ladies Aid at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Township.
Loretta is survived by her loving family: children and spouses, Harlan and LouAnn Jopp of St. Augusta, Lois Jopp of New Germany, and John and Julie Jopp of Watertown; grandchildren, Karrie and Andy Bowen, Erik and Melissa Jopp, Jamie and Jenny Jopp, Jackie and Steve Mach, and Jordan Jopp; and great-grandchildren, Annika Bowen, Emily Jopp, and Abigail Jopp.
She is further survived by brothers and sister-in-law Hilton and Lila Schwalbe of Buffalo, and Harold Schwalbe of Waconia; sisters and brother-in-law Irene Jopp of Mayer, Verna Ketcher of Rockford, Ill., and Wilbert Zastrow of Mayer; sister-in-law Bernett Jopp of Mayer; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents, Paul and Louise Schwalbe; sister, Anita Zastrow; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Alden Jopp, Wallace Jopp, Roy Ketcher, and Lorraine Schwalbe.
Funeral service was Tuesday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Hollywood Twp., New Germany, with the Rev. Robert J. Rupprecht officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were Loretta’s grandchildren.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
