William O. Kanning
William O. Kanning, age 83, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
He was born Jan. 3, 1924 in Fergus Falls, Minn., the son of the Rev. William and Louise (Hackbarth) Kanning. William graduated from Maple Lake High School, Maple Lake, Minn. in 1943.
William served in the US Armed Forces during World War II. After he was discharged, he lived in Minnesota.
William was united in marriage to Bonnie (Banke) Jones Dec. 28, 1957, and the couple settled in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1959.
William was employed with U.S. Gypsum, and Fort Dodge Limestone, and then by the City of Fort Dodge until retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge.
William is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Kathy Kanning, Christine Dollar, Judy Mae Jones, all of Fort Dodge, Michael Jones of Atlanta, Ga., and Barbara Jones of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Ruth Hansen of Audubon, Iowa; and a brother, Richard Kanning of Atlantic, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise Kanning; and two infant sons, William David Kanning and Johnathan William Kanning.
Funeral services was Monday, June 25 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Interment with military honors by VFW Post 1856 took place at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.
Visitation was Sunday, June 24 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Fort Dodge, which handled the arrangements.
