Orlin Elmer Karels
Orlin Elmer Karels, age 70, of Winsted, and a summer resident of Villard, died peacefully at home Wednesday, April 11, 2007.
Memorial Mass will be Monday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with visitation two hours prior to the Mass at the church. Inurnment will be at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Charles Millerbernd, Roger Guennigsman, Felix Quast, Leonard Kieser, Mike Henrich, Tony Kielkucki, Steve Kegler, Doug Schleisman, Leroy Williams, Tony Boys, and Leonard Rozeske.
Orlin was born March 13, 1937 in New Germany, the son of Elmer and Hilma (Domjahn) Karels. He was baptized April 4, 1937, and confirmed April 6, 1952, both at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany.
From 1961 to 1969, Orlin sang and played guitar for local country and western bands, The Telstars, and the Country Drifters. His love for music never passed, and he was still heard playing and singing as late as this past January.
Orlin enjoyed fishing, hunting, time spent with his grandchildren, and any time he could spend at his cabin on the lake in Villard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hilma Karels; and Kendal Zitzloff.
Orlin is survived by his spousal soulmate, Rosemary Zitzloff of Winsted; his children, Mark Karels of Minnetonka, Scott (Joni) Karels of Rogers, Mike (Cindy) Zitzloff of Winsted, Marty (Dianne) Zitzloff of Winsted, and Heidi (Troy) Root of Hutchinson; grandchildren Dani and Ali Karels, Cory (Allison) Zitzloff, Chasidy (Wayne) Telecky, Craig Zitzloff, Matthew Zitzloff, Jordan Zitzloff, and Brandon, Troy Jr., Whitney, Savanna, Cheyenne, Destiny, Mariah, Preston, Alexis, and Mallory Root; great-grandchildren Max and Lauren Zitzloff, and Miranda Zitzloff; a brother, Dale (Cindy) Karels of Buffalo; and numerous other family members and friends.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
