Myrtle Muriel Kleaver
Myrtle Muriel Kleaver, age 91, of Montgomery, Ala. and formerly of Waverly, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007 in Montgomery.
She was born Dec. 16, 1915 in rural Amboy, Minn. to Henry and Theresia (Borkenhagen) Johnson. Myrtle was raised by her maternal aunt, Amelia Salfisberg, in Wabasso. She graduated from Wabasso High School as valedictorian.
Myrtle married Ray Kleaver June 30, 1937, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso. They moved to Waverly from Redwood Falls in 1947.
A life-long homemaker, Myrtle enjoyed gardening, sewing, and needlecrafts. She was a faithful listener of KWRC radio, and was active in the Waverly Senior Citizen Club.
Myrtle was a member of the Waverly American Legion Auxiliary, and a long-time member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montrose.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen L. Brow (Robert), Kathleen R. Hess (John), all of Montgomery, Ala., and Kristen K. Zumbrunnen (Milton) of Buffalo; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; siblings; and one grandson.
Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montrose with the Rev. Robert Hellmann officiating. The organist was Katie Stevens., and the congregation sang “How Great Thou Art,” “Beautiful Savior,” and “Abide With Me.” Interment was in Redwood Falls Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. that same day, with the Rev. Jonathan Kruschel performing the committal prayers.
Visitation was at the church one hour before the funeral service.
Casket bearers were Christopher Hess, Jeremy Miller, Chad Miller, Kevin Hess, John Hess, Eric Hess, and Nicholas Zumbrunnen.
The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo served the family.
